Using the Bathmate is about as simple as it gets.
All you do is fill it up with warm water, put your penis inside and push it against your body, and pump the water away.
But there’s still a few issues that come up with the Bathmate, and I’m here to help you overcome them.
Before you start
-
Shave.
This is one of the mistakes I made when I used the Bathmate for the first time.
It is near impossible to get a proper vacuum when your pubes are creating a barrier between your skin and the Bathmate’s ring.
You don’t have to go full-on schoolboy, but at least a proper trim is needed to get a sufficient vacuum.

Should You Use The Comfort Ring?
I don’t think it’s necessary. I used it for a while when I got my Bathmate, but then I took it off as a test and didn’t miss it. In fact, I think it’s slightly uncomfortable, and I can get a better vacuum without it.
Experiment! Maybe it works for you, maybe it doesn’t.
Step 0: Warm up
You’ll know by now that I am a huge fan of warming up. The great thing about the Bathmate is that the warm-up is “built in.”
Here’s what I mean by that: You’ll likely be in the shower, running warm water over your penis. That warms up your penis slightly. Then, when you put it in the Bathmate filled with warm water, you’ll get another free warm up, because you shouldn’t pump up to full pressure from the get-go.
Now, that doesn’t mean I want you to skimp on the warm-up. Take your time to really get the tissue stretchy. It just means that you don’t have to sit down with a heating blanket or anything beforehand (although you can totally do that if you want).
Step 1: Fill The Bathmate With Warm Water
Rather obvious, isn’t it? The Bathmate is a water-based pump, so you need water.
Sure, you can use it without water, but I don’t see the point. You can try using it as an air pump once, then report back to me so I can say “I told you so.” (Nah, I’m not that smug).
How warm should the water be? Glad you asked. Here’s a simple rule of thumb:
If it’s lukewarm, it’s too cold, if it burns you, it’s too hot.
If, after sticking your dick in the Bathmate, you notice the water is too hot to handle, pause, re-fill with colder water, and try again.
I’ve come to realize that I underestimate the warmth while in the shower. Maybe that’s because the penis is surrounded by it in the Bathmate, therefore the heat comes on stronger. I don’t know, but you’ll learn that for yourself after a couple of times.
Step 2: Put Your penis Inside The Bathmate While Tugging On Your Balls
Why tug on your balls, you ask? So they don’t get sucked in by the vacuum you create.
Yes, I had trouble with that.
Yes, it happens somewhat easily.
And yes, it ain’t comfortable.
Once your penis is inside the Bathmate, you can let go of your balls, as long as you made sure they’re on the outside. They *usually* don’t float up into the device once you pump up.
If they do, no biggie, as long as it doesn’t hurt or anything. I just like to make sure it doesn’t happen, because
- I feel like an idiot, and
- I usually have to re-fill and re-pump, which is a waste of time.
Just to be on the safe side with that one.
Step 3: Before You Pump Up, Push The Bathmate Against Your Groin Repeatedly
This is crucial! Some water will splash out at the sides, but the seal will be tighter, which leads to a much better vacuum.
Before I did this, I often had trouble with water flowing out. Then, I had to take off the Bathmate and re-fill it. Not a huge waste of time, but still annoying.
With this, I never had to worry about losing the vacuum. The Bathmate stayed in place for the whole session.
Step 4: Move The Switch Into The Unlocked Position, And Pump A Bit Of Water Out The Front
I like to lean against the wall and point the Bathmate upward as much as I can. This leads to a tighter seal and, again, a better vacuum.
Don’t pump as hard as you can the first time around!
Pump a bit, then wait until the bellows has stretched back, then pump up again.
How much to pump?
I think it’s easier to answer how much NOT to pump.
Never pump until it hurts.
Your penis should feel pumped up, on the verge of feeling a bit too strongly pumped up. Although, like with penis stretching, I like to stray on the side of caution and not pump further than is comfortable.
If you’ve crossed into uncomfortable territory, there’s two things you can do:
- Release some pressure, just enough so that it’s comfortable again
- Release all the pressure and start from the beginning.
You can release pressure by pressing on the valve on the top of the Bathmate. The harder you press, the more water gets released.
When I started out, I had trouble finding the sweet spot between releasing too much pressure and keeping too much in, so I often re-filled. Now, with a bit more practice, I usually choose option one. Again, this one’s up to you.
Step 5: Stay In The Bathmate For The Length Of Your Training Session
You’ll probably find you have to adjust the pressure from time to time. As mentioned in Step 4, you can just release some of it by pressing on the valve at the top of the Bathmate.
The instruction manual tells you to take off the Bathmate two or three times during one session and start from the beginning. While I think that’s unnecessary, you might like to try it out and see whether you get better results. Honestly, I’m just too lazy to do that – which is why I got the Bathmate in the first place, I guess.
Step 6: Remove The Bathmate And Admire Your Pumped Up Cock!
If this is your first time using the Bathmate, or if you’ve been using it with a flaccid penis, you’ll probably wonder what all the hype is about.
Once you’ve been using it for a while, especially with an erection, you’ll become a believer, I promise you that. The pump will stay for a while (how long depends on your experience with the Bathmate), so go out and stretch out some pussies while you’re at it!
